Britney Spears thrashes in hospital, lashes out at dad's money grab

Even after she exits a Los Angeles psychiatric ward - which may not be anytime soon - Britney Spears will face serious questions about her competence handling both her money and her two small sons.

The manic ex-Mouseketeer Saturday was coming to the end of a 72-hour hospital stint arranged by her psychiatrist and loved ones, but her stay may be extended by 14 days, the celebrity Web site TMZ.com reported.

TMZ said the extension would be an internal hospital process done without a court order.

Spears' father, Jamie, and mother, Lynne, visited her at UCLA Medical Center's psych ward Saturday, arriving at 1 p.m. and leaving five hours later, People.com said.

On Friday, Spears' dad went to court and gained control of her assets and access to the increasingly irrational pop princess.

The decision did not sit well with Spears, who flew into a rage after discovering her father won his fight to take control of her spiraling life, according to TMZ.

In a profane outburst, Spears promised to battle her parents in court. "Nobody's taking my house," she reportedly screamed. "Who is my family?"

Jamie Spears' triumph may only be temporary. He's due in court Monday with lawyer Andrew Wallete for another hearing on whether they should continue as conservators for his troubled daughter.

Under the court decision, he was permitted to hire round-the-clock security for his daughter and bar people from her Los Angeles mansion.

Show biz manager Osama Lutfi, who remains at odds with the singer's parents, was also told to stay away from her.

In a separate hearing tomorrow, Britney Spears' lawyers in her custody battle with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, are due back in court. The lawyers have asked to be taken off the case after Spears twice refused to appear in court.

It was unclear if her second hospitalization in a month would change their plans. Lawyer Anne Kiley didn't return a phone call yesterday.

Spears' bizarre antics led a judge to bar her from visiting sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, who are in Federline's custody.

Spears arrived at the neuro-psychiatric unit Thursday with a police escort that cost taxpayers a reported $25,000.
