The Streets Mike Skinner: "Your Song" (Elton John cover)

New Music: The Streets: "Your Song" (Elton John cover)

As Pitchfork news reported last month, the BBC's Radio 1 is celebrating 40 years on the air by releasing a compilation of covers, featuring one song from each year of the station's existance. Mike Skinner, aka the Streets, has posted his tender version of Elton John's soft-rock classic "Your Song" to his MySpace page. Sounds like he decided to have some fun with it, though not in the way you might expect. Suffice to say it's the most, er, entertaining Reggie cover since Biz Markie did "Bennie and the Jets" for a Grand Royal flexi back in the mid-1990s. Skinner elaborates on his state of mind elsewhere on the page:

"I'm really happy with it. I was extremely emotional that day which I like to think you can hear in my voice alongside a very 'exhausted' band fresh off the tourbus from the Scotland tour."
